John Bird is an independent consultant with 20 years experience providing training, facilitation, curriculum development and technical assistance in the areas of diversity, program and organizational planning and development, assessment and evaluation, and community development.  Clients include Native American Tribes and Tribal organizations, major corporations, non-profit organizations, schools, and State and Federal government agencies.


Educated and trained in the area of Human Relations, Communication, and Counseling, John has had a wide range of professional work experience including administrative, clinical, training, research, evaluation, and curriculum development.  


In the area of diversity, John has worked on projects involving training delivery and/or curriculum development for clients such as; Microsoft, Texaco, American Family Insurance, Georgia Power, Deloitte and Touche, Kentucky Department of Technical Education, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Brooklyn and Staten Island Public High Schools, State of Montana, the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the National MultiCultural Institute, and the American Indian Training Institute.  


In addition to the issue of diversity, John has developed and delivered training on topics such as communication, conflict resolution, teambuilding, collaboration, substance abuse prevention and treatment, health and wellness, suicide prevention,  and working with Tribes and Tribal organizations.


He was a founding board member of the National Association for Native American Children of Alcoholics (NANACOA) and served as  President of the board for two years.  


In addition to his diverse professional experience, John brings to his work his experience and knowledge of the Blackfeet culture, history, language, and traditions.  An enrolled member of the Blackfeet Tribe of Montana, John was born and raised on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana but is also a Sealaska shareholder and affiliated with the Tlinget and Haida Central Council of Southeast Alaska where his paternal grandmother was from.  Although he now sees himself as a very multicultural person with the ability to function competently in many cultural settings, his indigenous worldview remains an integral part of his life and work.
